Dreamtime at the ‘G

It was a highly spirited time here at Karma Kegs HQ as we welcomed our favourite time of year; Dreamtime at the ‘G. For the sixth year running, we brought 15 kids from Port Augusta’s Aboriginal community who have exceeded in their reading, writing and attendance at school to Dreamtime at the ‘G, the iconic AFL match between the Richmond and Essendon football clubs.

Whilst jumping on a plane for the first time was an awesome experience for the Tji Tji Wiru kids, activities over the coming days were equally cool: watching the mighty Bombers train at Windy Hill in preparation for their annual Dreamtime at the G clash with the Tigers, having a meet and greet with the players at training, holding the banner for the players to run through at the MCG, making their own pizzas at Posty, walking with Michael Long from Fed Square to the MCG, going to the AFL Game Day Live TV Set and of course getting front and centre seats to the big match. The roar of being surrounded by 80,000 people at the ‘G was an eye opening experience for the kids, and us as well!

Not only was this experience a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Tji Tji Wiru kids of Port Augusta, but also a humbling experience for all at Karma Kegs HQ. As they waved goodbye with their Michael Long signed jumpers plastered to their back, we said farewell but not goodbye – bring on Dreamtime next year!
